Chimney Repair By Certified Chimney Sweeps
A chimney is a more complex machine than many people realize. When problems arise, such as the chimney not venting properly, several possibilities exist as to what the issue could be. For the efficiency of your chimney and the safety of your home, it is important that your chimney is repaired as soon as there are problems.
Raymond Bond, the founder of Mercer County Chimney Services, has over 30 years of experience in the chimney, masonry and fireplace business. You can trust that his team of fully licensed, insured, and trained professionals can handle any repairs that your chimney needs.
Chimney Cap and Crown Repair
Chimney caps sit atop the chimney, covering it to prevent moisture from the elements from entering the flue and causing damage. Chimney crowns are the top most part of the chimney structure which also protects the flue from weather damage. Caps are sometimes improperly installed or they have deteriorated over time, and in these cases, we can repair or replace the chimney cap. Crowns can crack over town, allowing water to seep into the inside of the chimney and cause various degrees of damage. This is a problem that will only grow worse over time, so it is important that our experienced chimney technicians are called to seal or rebuild your damaged crown.
Flashing Repair
The flashing is the covering over the seam between the chimney and the roof that protects water from seeping in between. Loose or missing flashing does not function properly, and as a result, water can enter the roof, chimney structure, or attic. In order to prevent moisture damage in your home, make sure your flashing is repaired, as moisture damage in a home can become a much more expensive problem.
Liner Repair
The chimney liner is one of the most critical parts of the chimney system, as it protects the interior of your chimney from the heat and gases that pass through the chimney. A well-functioning chimney liner is necessary to keep your chimney safe. Our annual inspections include an analysis of the state of your liner, and our trained chimney sweeps will be able to detect any problems. Cracks, blockages, or deterioration must be dealt with.
Firebox Repair
The firebox is the part of the chimney where the actual fire is built. These are usually lined with firebrick, which is a material created out of refractory ceramic, a substance that can become cracked over years of use. Refractory mortar can also deteriorate and begin to fall out of the firebox. Fireboxes should be inspected every five years, and if your firebox is showing signs of deterioration, it should be repaired or rebuilt.
Tuckpointing and Masonry Repair
If visible cracks exist in the bricks or mortar of your chimney or the mortar appears to be crumbling, then the structure is in need of repair. Often tuckpointing, a process by which holes in the mortar are filled in, is enough, but sometimes the masonry must be rebuilt. We can repair any level of damage to the masonry.
